Merida’s magic tartlets

If you have seen “Brave”, one of the latest Pixar movie, you’ll surely remember the beautiful magic tartlet that Merida offers her mother in order to change her mind about Merida’s wedding.

These little tarts will not luckily turn anyone into a bear 😉 . They are magic, indeed; if you’re mad at your family, love or your neighbor, prepare these tartlets and share them… Their delicious creamy filling will solve any conflict 😉 .

We would like to thank the “Tour de Villa” castle, in Gressan (Aosta Valley – Italy), who kindly lent us the tableware for the photo. Have a look on its website www.tourdevilla.it 🙂 !

  • 50 g whole wheat flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 vanilla bean

For the filling

  • 250 g Philadelphia cream cheese
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1/2 spoon flour
  • 1 egg
  • 80 g cream
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 vanilla bean

For the decoration

  • blueberry jam
  • icing sugar

Instructions

For the Pâte Sucrée Dough

  1. Start by beating together butter, sugar, egg and vanilla for a couple of minutes.
  2. Add the two types of flour and the salt and knead energetically till the dough is smooth and compact.
  3. After letting the dough rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, you can roll it out and cover 12 muffin moulds with it.
  4. Don't forget to pierce the dough with a fork, to prevent the bottom from puffing up during the baking :).

For the filling

  1. Beat together sugar, egg, vanilla and flour.
  2. Then, add Philadelphia, liquid cream and salt and break all the lumps using a metal whisk.
  3. Pour the filling in the moulds till 0,5 cm under the rim.
  4. Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes.

For the decoration

  1. As soon as the tartlets are cold, hole the centre of each one with a pastry ring of 1,5 cm of diameter.
  2. Sprinkle with icing sugar and then fill the tart with blueberry jam.
  3. And remember, if this tartlet does not solve your conflict, you'll have at least enjoyed it :)!
