Watching movies, we are always looking for scenes with dishes that inspire us: yet we had almost missed Shrek! In this animated movie by Dreamworks not only food is important in many scenes, but it also comes to life and becomes a nice side character: Zenzy! So here we’ve got our recipe of gingerbread cookies.

Gingerbread are soft and spicy biscuits, perfect for snacking, or to be served with tea… Their delicious smell will enchant you, and it will be really difficult to let them cool to decorate them ?.

We must admit that we had a lot of fun making this photo, torturing Zenzy; the biscuits were eaten soon after, of course, only to end their suffering.

Gingerbread cookies

Ingredients

  • 350 g flour
  • 100 g honey
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon all spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • vanilla
  • some orange zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 150 g butter
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 50 g muscovado sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Decoration

  • 1 egg white
  • 200 g icing sugar
  • gummy candies

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, the two types of sugar and salt.

  2. Add the powdered or ground spices (cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and spice). Chop and add a little orange zest. Then add the vanilla seeds.

  3. Add the egg and soften butter, then add the honey while kneading.

    Form a ball, cover with the film and let it rest in the fridge for an hour.

  4. Roll out the dough making it about 3-4 mm tall. Cut with the cookie mold and place on a baking sheet lined up with baking paper.

  5. Bake the biscuits for 10 minutes at 180°C. Let them cool completely before decorating.

Decoration

  1. Whip the egg white with a few drops of lemon juice, when its volume will be increased about 4 times, add the sugar and continue until it will be mounted stiff. Place the egg whites in a sac a poche with the smallest tip you have.

  2. Decorate the cookies and fix the gummy buttons with some icing.

  3. Now your little gingerbreads are ready to be tortured and eaten.
