Harvest cake from Drag me to Hell

Halloween is almost here and you do not know what to prepare for your guests yet? Could Harvest cake with carrots from the popular film “Drag Me to Hell” be more suitable? 🙂

If you’ve seen the movie you know what we’re talking about and you know what happens to the protagonist when she tries to eat her slice. And why should you avoid the same surprise for your guests? With some sugar paste and some food colorings, you can leave them speechless! 🙂drag me to hell harvest cake torta mietitura

As in the film there are no clues on the ingredients of the cake, we took the liberty of giving our own interpretation of the dessert. We wanted to create something rustic and genuine, with carrots, walnuts, almonds and raisins… And some spice to make it more rural 🙂 . The only clue the film give us is the use of goose eggs, but feel free to use the ones that you will find!

We had a lot of fun realizing this cake, and we did this with the help of the cinema production Aegyptiacus Entertaiment, who kindly sculpted the eye for us… So, Happy Halloween everyone! 😀

And now let go back to the kitchen… Trying not to upset Sylvia Ganush!

Harvest cake from Drag me to Hell

Cuisine Vegetarian
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour
Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes
Servings 6 people
Difficulty Medium

Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 250 g of carrots
  • 150 g of brown sugar
  • 75 g of walnuts
  • 75 g of almonds
  • 2 goose eggs or 4 chicken eggs
  • 125 g of butter
  • 75 g of raisins
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • vanilla
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg

For the decoration

  • 100 g of powdered sugar
  • juice of half a lemon
  • sugar paste
  • food coloring

Instructions

  1. Finely grate the carrots using the thinner blade of the grater
  2. Coarsely chop walnut and almonds, and soak raisins in warm water.
  3. Beat eggs with sugar, then add the carrots, the melted butter and drained raisins.
  4. Finally add the sifted flour with baking powder, salt, spices and dried fruit.
  5. Pour into a greased cake tin and bake at 200° C for about 60 minutes, checking, however, that the surface does not darken too much. If so, lower the temperature to 180° C and continue baking.
  6. Once ready, remove the cake and let it cool completely. Apart mix the icing sugar with the lemon juice, being careful to add this little by little, so as to obtain an icing fluid but not too much.
  7. Pour the frosting over the top and let it curdle.
  8. Finally, let's prepare the eye. Take a small portion of sugar paste and form a ball.
  9. Create two strings of sugar paste and put them on the bulb to form eyelids. With a slightly toothprick create the folds of the skin.
  10. Once the eye is ready, cut the cake and created a small hole in the center of each slice, which will contain the eye.
  11. Once installed, you can color it how you prefer :).

  1. Hello. My name is Jack White. I was the food stylist that made the cakes for drag me to hell. The cake was made with apples not carrots. I can send you the original recipe if you would like to have it
